Galen Burkholder, International Director and founder of Global Disciples, will speak at St. John Mennonite Church, 15988 Road 4, Pandora, on Wednesday, Aug. 21, on the topic "Hope in the Hard Places." 

There will be dinner and program at 6 p.m. Global Disciples trains church planters and pastors with an innovative model that empowers indigenous churches to use "what is in their hands."  

Then these trained believers can access hard-to-reach communities through small business while preaching the Gospel and planting churches.

Et Cetera Thrift Shop, 111 S. Main St., Bluffton, will hold a back-to-school sale during Friday and Saturday's downtown sidewalk sales, according to Chrissy Lugibihl, manager.

All back to school clothing is $1 during the sale.

Lugibihl reminds shoppers to also check out the kid's books at Book Reviews, 123 S. Main St.,

Friday, Aug. 16 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Northwest Ohio Elite Diamond Sports will hold softball try outs for a 14U travel team on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. 

Try outs will be held at the Village Park in Bluffton. If you have questions, or in case of inclement weather, please contact Coach Brad Prater at 419-234-1206. 

Also, if you can't make the try out for some reason, call to see about scheduling a private try out.

The list of activities planned for Bluffton’s 10th annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28, continues to expand.

Eight community groups will host a “Sowing and Reaping: Celebrating good food from the earth,” from 8:30 a.m. to noon, with events going on at the Bluffton Farmers’ Market and at First Mennonite Church.

The sponsoring groups are First Mennonite Church, Bluffton Farmers’ Market, The Food Store, Bluffton University, Citizens National Bank, The Dough Hook, Jeanne's Kitchen and Community Market.

“Deck the Halls” is this year’s Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce Blaze of Lights theme, according to members of the Blaze planning committee.

This year’s Blaze is Saturday, Nov. 30. Invitations are going in the mail later this week for Blaze parade entries. Junior Weihrauch of Arlington is again the parade director. A Blaze parade entry form is an attachment at the bottom of this story.
