The Bluffton University track and field program traveled to the campus of Baldwin-Wallace to compete in the Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday, April 20. Unseasonably cold weather and snow flurries made for less than desirable conditions, but the Beavers were still able to post several personal best thanks in large part to the throwing contingent.

Emily Sycks, a Blufton High School junior, was named March student of the month.

She has a 3.95 grade point average and is a member Latin Club, Art Club, Drama Club, String Orchestra, Show Choir, Pep Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, National Honor Society, Bluffton Presbyterian Church Choir and Youth Group. Emily helps tutor the elementary students in the SOS tutoring program and is employed at the Bluffton Dari Freeze.

 

She is interested in pursuing a career in art therapy. She is the daughter of Dave and Linda Sycks, Bluffton.

 

 

 

Bluffton Public Library is accepting teen volunteer applications for its “Dig Into Reading” summer reading program.   Ages 12 through 18 may apply. Applications are due by May 15 and parental permission is required for minors. Volunteers must attend a one-hour orientation session on May 20 at 6:30 p.m. or May 23 at 3:30 p.m.  Light snacks will be provided following orientation.

Robert Stratton, Sergeant at Arms and  Commander of the Honor Guard of the Bluffton American Legion Post 382, was recognized recently for his 60 years of continued membership in the Post.

Stratton  joined the Bluffton American Legion Post in 1953. He is a Veteran of the Korean War. Presenting the Certificate of Continuous Membership to Stratton was Tom Craig, 2nd Vice Commander of the Bluffton American Legion Post.
