BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Beavers welcomed the Ohio Wesleyan University Battlin’ Bishops on Saturday, Dec. 29, hoping to claim the McDonalds Holiday Tournament title. Unfortunately, the #21-ranked Bishops built a 16-point halftime lead and coasted to a 75-51 victory over the hosts.

This was the most familiar sight in Bluffton on Dec. 29. After several inches of snow fell on the area over the past 48 hours, Saturday was 'dig out' day. This snow blower works the sidewalk on the Bluffton University campus on Spring Street. Click for a video.

The holiday season is sliding to an end and things will get back to normal any minute now.  But until then, you can embrace one last tradition, one last thing to bind us to each other as we look ahead to the new year.

How about we drop something?

The most famous drop in the United States is the dropping of the New Year's ball in Times Square, New York City. Thousands gather to watch the ball make its one-minute descent, arriving exactly at midnight.

he Bluffton University women’s basketball team fell to Baldwin-Wallace at the Hope College Flying Dutch Holiday Tournament on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012. The Beavers dipped to 5-5, while Baldwin-Wallace improved to 5-5.

As some of the old timers tell it, Greg Conkling showed up here like a lost kitten sometime around 1986. He hung around until we got used to him and permitted him to stay.

At least, that’s the way I heard it. Maybe you heard differently.
