There was magic in the house recently at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. A magician entertained residents and youth at the child care. Here are some views of the afternoon.

Let's place this photo essay in the spirit of Charles Hilty. He had a knack for taking photos of what he called town characters but printed them in the local paper under the theme "Faces you know," or similar polite headlines.

So, along comes Denny Morrison with a camera. Let me tell you, Denny is a master craftsman himself. He tools by Larry Core, who is working outside in his yard on who-know's-what. Denny stops, talks with Larry, snaps some photos and goes on his way.

If you like silent auctions, you'll want to visit the Mennonite Memorial Home this week. The MMH Service Group is holding a silent auction all week along with the Bluffton Fall Festival that takes place on Saturday.

Now through Sept.29, bids will be accepted for a variety of handcrafted items that can be seen in the MMH lobby. 

Bids are updated daily and the final bids will be taken Saturday, Sept. 29, at noon.  People are encouraged to view the items and to place their bids.

Here are two solid Pirate fans. They'll watch football games in any kind of weather, including last Friday night's downpour. The fans are Clara Matthews and Bella Angel.

How social media can affect every aspect of a person’s life will be Tiffany Sellers’ topic for a Bluffton University Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Bluffton’s Founders Hall.

Her presentation, “How Technology Impacts the Pieces of Me,” is free and open to the public.

“Art and Soul: A Collaboration of Spirits,” a collection of drawings by 1989 Bluffton alumna Joanne Von Sossan, will be on display beginning Monday, Oct. 1, in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of the university’s Sauder Visual Arts Center.

The exhibit is free and open to the public through Oct. 26. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A reception with the artist will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 13.
