Bluffton University will offer six summer mathematics workshops for middle and high school teachers beginning June 12.
The 24th annual workshops, hosted by adjunct faculty member Duane Bollenbacher, are all three-day sessions, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Each workshop may be taken for 22.5 contact hours of Local Professional Development Committee credit, at a cost of $125, or, on a pass/fail basis, for one semester hour of graduate workshop credit, for $275. Lunches are included; other meals and housing are available.
Students who have completed grade seven or eight and an accelerated pre-algebra course are invited to attend the fourth annual Bluffton University Junior High Mathematics Enrichment Camp Monday-Friday, June 11-15.
Led by Dr. Donald Hooley, professor of mathematics, participants will explore topics such as graph theory, knot theory, topological surfaces and non-Euclidean geometry using pencil and paper, pebbles, string and rope, paper strips and computer software in group settings.
The 2012 Bluffton High School baccalaureate service, coordinated by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association, will take place at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at the home of Jon and Janice Basinger, 4080 E. Hook-Waltz Road (corner of Hook-Waltz and Mayberry).

The Cakewalkin' Jass Band will present an afternoon of New Orleans style jazz, blues, and gospel at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in the Great Room at First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., Findlay. The concert, the final in the church's 32nd Concert Series, is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be received.
A Toledo institution, the Cakewalkin' Jass Band was organized in 1967. After playing three short night club jobs and one wedding, the band opened at Tony Packo's Cafe in 1968.
BFR invites Icon viewers to participate in Ohio's One Mile Fitness Walk on Wednesday, May 16, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.
"Come to BFR and either walk inside or outside," she said. "The official walk is at noon, but you can walk anytime throughout the day. Make sure you log your hours with us.
The event is part of Healthy Ohio. The statewide program goal is 100,000 miles of walking.
Marissa Schutz, a Pandora-Gilboa High School senior, is the 2012 winner of the Barbara Fleming Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, (MHCO), Bluffton.
Schutz is the daughter of John and Marcia Schutz. This annual award provides scholarship support to a student pursuing a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse, a Registered Nurse or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
