Bluffton University's Board of Trustees has taken formal action to recognize a longtime Bluffton family that provided the naming gift for the health and fitness education center project that is the centerpiece of Extending Our Reach-The Campaign for Bluffton.
Upon completion next fall, the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education will recognize the service and significant campaign gifts of Ted '41 and Jo (Conrad '44) Sommer and their sons, Steve '73 and Jim '68, along with Jim's wife Susan (Lehman '68) Sommer, all from central Illinois.
The Barberettes, a women's chorus with 27 members, directed by Jayne McGarrity and choreographed by Janette Reineke will present their spring program at area senior living residences in April and May.
The women, who have been singing together for seven years, will present "100 Years of Broadway" with soloists Marlyce Gundy, Kay Huber and Sheryl Schirmer.

Why aren't there lights for the basketball courts at the Buckeye Park? It looks like it is set up to house lights since they have poles and the electrical work inside of the poles but someone took them out.
One way to keep kids out of trouble and healthy is to keep them occupied with activities such as basketball. In the summer and spring it becomes impossible to play basketball when the sun sets even though that is the best time to play.
Fortman Insurance, 115 N. Main St., Bluffton, will sponsor a Medicare Educational Seminar at the Bluffton Senior Center at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 19, according to Branden Fortman.
The seminar should last approximately one hour.
Subject covered include:
o when you become eligible,
o when to sign up, and
o choices involved with Original Medicare Plans Part A and B, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) and Medicare Advantage Plans.
The Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual volunteer recognition banquet Tuesday, April 24 beginning at noon at The Centre of Bluffton, 601 N. Main St., Bluffton. The awards ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m.
At the event, auxiliary members will be recognized for their hours of volunteer service to the hospital. Overall, the Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary includes 88 volunteers who gave 11,305 hours to the hospital in 2011.
