Bluffton police warn of phone call scam in area
A number of area police agencies are taking "scam" reports where male caller tries to get elderly person to "bond" someone out of jail, Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief informed The Icon.
"This area is again being targeted by callers claiming to be trying to secure money to bond family members out of jail. This scam primarily targeting elderly people who may have a hard time hearing over the phone," he said.
"We are again encouraging people to remind friends and family to verify the circumstances of any request for money over the phone. We don't recommend engaging these folks in coversation, simply hang up the phone," he added.
He encourages Icon viewers to can contact the police department if anyone is in doubt about a situation.
