February is "Love Your Library Month"

Casting call: Do you love your library? Be a part of a promotional video being shot the first week of February in honor of Love Your Library month! Inquire at the front desk, call 419-358-5106, or [email protected] to be involved. Then: Come to the Love Your Library Promo Release Party to see if your testimony made the cut! (on Feb. 21 @ 6:30 p.m.) Refreshments provided.

The library’s Adult Book Discussion group will meet Feb. 1 at noon to discuss The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman at noon in the Shannon Local History Room. The next discussion will be ofThe Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel on Mar. 1st. Participants will also be Skyping with the author, Tiffany McDaniel, herself during the discussion! On Feb. 2nd at 6 p.m., the library’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writer’s Group will meet. For more information or to join (though space may be limited), email [email protected].

Library Playgroup, returns to Friday mornings on February 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th all at 10 a.m.  Make a play date and the library will provide the space and toys!  (Registration is not required for these Playgroup sessions.)

Winter Storytime continues Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m. You may register via phone (419-358-5016), by email ([email protected]), or in person at the front desk. Space is limited to 18 children per session. This program is for Preschool Children (ages 3 to 5), and the schedule is as follows: Feb. 6th & 7th: Bathtime; Feb. 13th & 14th: Yummy, Yummy in My Tummy; Feb. 27th & 28th: Dinosaurs; Mar. 6th & 7th: Boxes.

Hot Tea Tuesdays continue throughout February. Come in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Tuesday to warm up with a free cup of hot tea and a cookie (or two). Sip and peruse the library’s collection of books, DVDs, music, audiobooks, magazines, children's kits, and more.  Also, ask about ebooks, videos, magazines and audiobooks available through OverDrive using your library card.

Dulcimers @ the Library continues into February at its regular time, Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Meetings are in the library’s Shannon Local History Room.

Chill Zone is a time and space for tweens and teens to hang out and relax at the library. Awesomeness happens every Tuesday after school, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Anyone in 6th through 12th grade is welcome to join. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events and crafting. Snacks are provided. The schedule for February is as follows: Feb. 7: Movie Madness; Feb. 14: We <3 Bacon; Feb. 21: Spa Day; and Feb. 28: Games.

On Feb. 8 at 3:30 p.m. the library will have a Fairy Garden Workshop!  Create your own kid-friendly miniature fairy garden with endless opportunities for make-believe. Register by Feb. 3 to attend, and bring your own bowl or container the day of the event.

Join Miss Lauren in reading and discussing poetry from the book Voices from the March on Washington (2014) by J. Patrick Lewis and George Ella Lyon on Feb. 9th at 4pm! This program is for anyone grades 3 and up, and parents are encouraged to attend the discussion with their child. Registration is suggested. This book is a “Choose to Read Ohio” book and is currently available for download on the Ohio Digital Library through your library card. If you need assistance with this, [email protected] or stop by our front desk. A limited amount of hard copies are available for checkout at the front desk. It is not necessary to read this entire book before attending since we will read portions of it together!

Jammin’ at the Library continues at the library at 6 p.m.on Feb. 13 and 27. This month’s Jammin’ at the Library (instructional) is on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. Learn various methods in jammin’-style music. Topics are determined each month by the group. For more information, [email protected].

Library Crafts will be available in the library on Feb. 15 and 22. Visit us any time during open hours to complete these family friendly crafts.

On Feb. 15 from 2-3 p.m. come learn how Ohio Means Jobs- Allen County can assist you with your job search. As you search for that perfect job, you may have questions along the way. Job seekers can find a wide range of services that make finding that perfect job so much easier. Beth Carrier, a Job Coach at OMJ, will talk about the services available. Feel free to bring your device to follow along (utilizing our free WiFi), but a device is not required.

Come for a time of reading and celebration of all things Elephant and Piggie during the Elephant & Piggie Extravaganza! on Feb. 16 at 3:30 p.m. No registration necessary.

On Feb. 23rd at 10 a.m., the library will host another session of Babies Love Books. Join us for a special time of stories, movement and song for babies and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years) at Bluffton Public Library. Activities are chosen to promote language and motor development. All children must be accompanied by a parent or child care provider who will participate in the program.

Sign up at the library to join us on Thursday, February 23 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. for a Star Walk at The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve near Pandora! Then, on the evening of the event, park along the road and meet in the shelter house.  Be sure everyone in your party brings a flashlight and dresses for the weather, including good walking boots/shoes.  (Sorry, no infant strollers allowed. All children must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian.) Please sign up by Friday, Feb 17 to let us know you are coming and to get take-home details of potential "Cloud Date" and directions to The Quarry Farm.

On Feb. 27th at 5:30 p.m., local artist Jeanne Beutler will return for another Watercolor Workshop on the lower level of the library. Participants will paint “Whitewashed Barn,” and registration is required (and the number of registrants is limited!) Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat! There is a $10 fee at the door (cash only).
