School pickup/drop off traffic will see increased police presence

The following announcement was made by the Bluffton Police Department on Facebook:

The Bluffton Police Department has received several complaints recently regarding school bus and school zone safety. Our officers will be taking a proactive approach to these complaints and you will see an increased police presence around the schools to help keep our youth safe. 

We want to remind drivers that during restricted hours, the speed limit in a school zone in 20MPH. Also, please be mindful when approaching stop signs and come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection. 

We have received several additional complaints of vehicles passing school buses when their warning signals are activated for loading and unloading of students. These school buses are equipped with active camera systems and all bus drivers are mandatory reporters of traffic violations.

If your morning or afternoon commute takes you through a school zone or near a bus route, please allow extra time to get to your destination.
