Patrician Ann (Cupples) Kidder was a teacher

Patrician Ann (Cupples) Kidder died Monday, March 4 2024 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain, Ohio following a ten-year battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

She was surrounded by the love of God, her husband and children as she transitioned to her new life peacefully and without pain. She was born May 5, 1952 in Bluffton, Ohio.

A resident of Lorain for 35 years, she, her husband and children have also lived in Piqua, Fostoria and Lima, Ohio. She graduated from Mt. Cory High school in 1970.  She next graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1974 with a BS in Special Education and earned her MS in Education in 1994 from BGSU as well.

Pat was an Elementary and Special Education Teacher for 35 years.  She became a member of The First Congregational UCC, Lorain in 1988 as well as a member of Community Congregational UCC, Amherst when the two churches merged.  She joined the Lorain Xi Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi service sorority in 2001.  She was a very active member and served as their secretary for many years.

As they arrived, her children and grandchildren were the focus of her life. She loved them and loved playing, helping, teaching and laughing with them more than anything else in the world. They were truly her pride and joy. She attended every soccer, basketball, church and school activity possible.

She is survived by her husband Mark R. Kidder, daughter Sarah J. (Kidder) Whatley, son George D. Kidder and Son-in-law Michael Whatley, Sr., all residing in Lorain. Her grandchildren are Christian A. Kidder, Michael A. Whatley Jr., Charles D. Whatley, Maya R. Whatley and Alanna J. Whatley. She is also survived by her brothers Terry, Jerry, Jean and Jeff Cupples and sister Nancy (Cupples) Ernst. She was preceded in death by her father, Arlo D. Cupples and mother, Gloria (Hauenstein) Cupples.

The best way to remember and honor Pat is not through a contribution; the best way to honor her is to read to a child. It will cost you nothing and you can do so anywhere. Try the library, in school or church and especially at home. It will not only spark the imagination of the child but you will also be able to feel the challenge, joy, happiness and satisfaction Pat felt as a teacher for 35 years. In lieu of flowers and if donations are made, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lorain City Schools Foundation.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4-7:00 p.m. at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m., at Community Congregational Church UCC, 379 S. Main St. Amherst, Ohio. Rev. Brian Russell, Pastor, will be officiating.
