Jay "Jack" S. Stewart served in the U.S. Air Force
Jay "Jack" S. Stewart, 88, entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 14, 2024, at Willow Ridge-Frieda House.
Jay was born July 9, 1935 in Cambridge, OH, to James S. and Florence (Bolich) Stewart who preceded him in death. On November 26, 1955 he married his faithful and loving wife of over 68 years, Ferne (Imler) Stewart who survives.
He was a graduate of Columbus South High School before graduating with an associate's degree from Ohio Technical College. Jay was also a proud Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War Conflict in the Strategic Air Command. Prior to retiring from General Telephone and Electronics Corporation after 24 years, he was involved in the U.S. Air and Space Program working directly with NASA and earning the Snoopy Award. He was a member of Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus. Jay was also an avid reader and a dedicated man of faith who adored spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ferne Stewart of Bluffton; three sons, Victor (Janet) Stewart of Lebanon, PA, Bradley Stewart of Powell, OH, and Andrew (Kristy) Stewart of Bluffton; eight grandchildren, Valerie Stewart, Maria (Matthew) Peffer, Joel (Julie) Stewart, Nathan Stewart, Drew (Alyssa) Stewart, Julia Stewart, Skyler Stewart, and Emily Stewart; four great-grandchildren; three siblings, Janice Miller, D. Cordell (Lois) Stewart, and Curtis (Janice) Stewart; and sister-in-law Beulah Imler.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Lockett; a half-brother, James A. Stewart; a half-sister, Barbara Stewart.
A private funeral and burial will be held. A public memorial service will take place at Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus on July 20, 2024 at a time that is to be determined.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace To You (GTY.org) or Wounded Warriors.
