On Thursday, April 14, The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library will host a formal Tea with the Lincolns, featuring President Abraham and Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln as portrayed by Roger and Judy Jenot of Carey. The tea begins at 5:45 p.m. and will be held in the library's Richland Room.
President Lincoln and his first lady will speak about their experiences from the 1800s. The Jenots bring a wealth of experience to these roles: they have traveled to many places associated with the Lincoln family and the Civil War era.
Mr. Jenot taught social studies at Carey High School for 30 years and is a member of the Civil War Roundtable in Bucyrus. Mrs. Jenot is originally from Lincoln country in Illinois. She worked at a Carey pharmacy and is a member of Findlay's Mazza Museum, where she has participated in study tours with illustrators of children's literature.
The formal tea is an elegant, complete meal prepared by the Friends. The menu includes scones and lemon curd, lavender and vanilla "pillows," fruit and nut breads, savory finger sandwiches, fresh fruit and plenty of hot tea. The table settings include fine china and linens.
Tickets for Tea with the Lincolns will be on sale at the Bluffton Public Library circulation desk beginning March 15. The tea is $12 for non-members and $11 for Friends of the Library. Seating is limited.
