Grandma and Grandpa Suter

By Mary Pannabecker Steiner

Nostalgia is flowing over me in waves right now. As I write, my Grandma Suter is playing her favorite hymns on the piano. True, Grandma died in 1993, but thanks to a bit of foresight on my husband's part and a lot of technical work on the part of my oldest daughter, history is replaying itself on the CD player. For Christmas, Lindsay transferred all of our cassette recordings onto CDs. I'm grateful for the hours she spent doing this.

2012 thoughts

As thoughts move to 2012 this message on the Maple Crest Senior Living Village may be on the minds of many Icon viewers.

ICON:

Thank you for working with so many to put the book about Bluffton together...

I used to sit with my Grandmother (Ruth Shilling Culp) for hours - listening to stories about Pandora and what life was like when she was growing up.

I never met my Grandfather Milliard Herr, (though I did find his name in the graduating class! in your book) nor did I know my Grandma Herr (although I did meet her and did spend a few holidays) I never had the opportunity of sitting and talking about when she grew up as I did with my Grandmother Shilling.)

The Icon spotted this Maryland plate on Grove Street.
