Toby Buckell, was absent from his familiar Common Grounds chair all during the Bluffton sesquicentennial week. How could someone leave town during such an event?

Simple: He received an invitation to speak at a conference on an island off the coast of the Americas. To be exact, it was Barbados. He said the food was great and the weather was fantastic.

Country Inn & Suites and Holiday Inn Express Findlay will play host on Sunday October 2nd, from 1 to 4 p.m., to "Once Upon a Wedding," Findlay's only interactive bridal showcase. The showcase will include food to sample, music, special activities and gifts for men, and a Bridal Bonus Bundle coupon book full of savings. Different rooms throughout each property will be staged to appear as though a wedding is taking place. Meeting rooms will feature ideas for receptions; suites will feature the bridal party getting ready for the big day and much more.

A novel destination

If you've ever wondered what it takes to put on a Bluffton event, read on: It takes volunteers. Lots of them. It also takes sponsors. Lots of them, too.

Bob Amstutz of the Bluffton Lions provide the following details of what exactly is needed to put on the the 44th Festival of Wheels and Cruise-in.

Ten Thousand Villages offers a style statement piece from the artisans of Tara Projects, a pioneering fair trade organization in India, during July, according to Aphaphanh Nussbaum, manager.

Check out the zipper pendant necklaces formed from recycled zippers. Ten Thousand Villages, 115 S. Main St., is open Mondays to Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 to 5 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bluffton's July flower

It's early July. In Bluffton that means that lots of white-petaled flowers with yellow faces are in bloom. They are Shasta daisies.

Anne Stratton will appraise area antiques from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Bluffton Dari Freeze. Those attending are invited to bring two items per person for appraisals.Bill Marchal said that everyone is invited to attend, even if you don't have an item to be appraised. "She is very entertaining," said Marchal.
Stratton does not appraise coins, weapons or collectibles. Her next visit to the Dari Freeze is from 5-7 p.m., Sept. 15.

An after-hours pool party fundraiser is planned for the Brockert/Mikesell family at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 17. Admission is $3 a person (sorry, pool passes not accepted). Donations are being accepted. Pizza will be available for sale. All proceeds from the event go to the Brockert/Mikesell families.
