Basinger Plumbing and Heating is offering a heating and cooling offer this winter that is very affordable to Icon viewers.

Bluffton University alumnae can enjoy a day out of the ordinary on Saturday, March 5, when the university's Women's Council hosts the second annual Women R&R (Reconnecting and Reaching Out).

The day of relaxation and reminiscing with college friends includes entertainment, as well as reaching out to current female Bluffton students. Last year's attendees donated $700 to support the Women's Council Professional Enrichment Grant for Women, which helps female students gain professional experience in an anticipated career.

Tickets remain available for the next performance in the 2010-11 Bluffton University Artist Series, by pianist Martina Filjak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Filjak, who debuted in her native Croatia at age 12, was the first-prize winner among 122 contestants at the 58th International Viotti Piano Competition in November 2007.

Sister Helen Prejean, whose book about her experience with a death-row inmate became the acclaimed film "Dead Man Walking," will speak Tuesday, March 1, at Bluffton University and at First Mennonite Church, 101 S. Jackson St., Bluffton.

Prejean, an opponent of the death penalty and advocate for restorative justice, will deliver the university's annual Smucker Lecture, "Dead Man Walking-The Journey Continues," in a Bluffton Forum at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall. She will then speak at the church at 7 p.m. Both presentations are free and open to the public.

"Shedding Some Light on Kiln-Formed Glass: Hot & Cold, Hard & Fragile, Colorful & Clear" will be Gregg Luginbuhl's topic for a Bluffton University Colloquium at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Hester Lecture Hall in Sauder Visual Arts Center. The colloquium is free and open to the public.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team hosted the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College on Wednesday, February 16, for Senior Night. The Beavers honored Rob Luderman (Ayersville) and Cam Saylor (Belle Center/Benjamin Logan) for four years in the Bluffton men's basketball program.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team traveled to long-time rival Defiance College on Wednesday, February 16. The Beavers were down 31-27 at the break and the Yellow Jackets outscored Bluffton 42-36 in the second half for a 73-63 win. Bluffton fell to 9-15 overall and 6-11 in the Heartland Conference, while Defiance improved to 11-13 overall and 9-8 in the HCAC.
