Pirate swimmers 3rd at league meet; Bowlus wins 2 races

NORTH ROBINSON__The Bluffton High School swim teams finished a strong third at the North Central Ohio Swim League championship meet hosted by Colonel Crawford in the William Ferrell Natatorium on January 27.
Jackson Bowlus won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke races to pace the Pirates.
Xaver Diller touched first in the 100 butterfly. Jenna Downey also took first in the 50 freestyle.
Bowlus and Diller swam two of the four legs for the winning 200 medley relay quartet.
Downey also swam the initial lap for the first-place girls 200 freestyle relay foursome.
The Pirate girls ended up third out of seven teams with 233 points. Colonel Crawford won the girls league title with 353 points, followed by Upper Sandusky in second (269), and Bluffton.
The Pirate boys came in third amid a field of eight squads with 202 points. Upper Sandusky edged Colonel Crawford by a single point to win the boys league crown, 293-292.
Overall, Bluffton finished third in the combined boys/girls standings with 435 points. Colonel Crawford was first (645), followed by Upper Sandusky (562) in second.
