Here are some May calendar items from Apollo Career Center:
Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. National Technical Honor Society induction ceremony 12 students will be inducted.
Saturday, May 6 at 8-11 p.m. the 2017 Apollo prom will take place in the Apollo Commons.
Tuesday, May 9 begins the annual Floral Design and Interiors bedding plant sale. A wide variety of annuals, vegetables and hanging baskets. May 9-12, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Open to the public.
Sam Diller’s resume includes participation in nearly every Bluffton organization.
But, until this year, he’s never been a rainbow trout.
That changes on Sunday, May 7, as the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club honors Diller, retired Bluffton attorney. The club has named its trout number 1 in Diller’s honor: “Sudden Sam.”
Several new features are part of this year’s Bluffton Arts and Crafts Show, set for Saturday, May 13, according to Phil Zimmerly, chamber director. And, booths are still available.
Like previous shows, this year’s event operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Main Street’s retail storefronts.
New features this year include:
• Putt-putt golf, sponsored by M&R Plumbing and Heating
(location to be determined)
• Pony rides will be free, and moved to the intersection of Main and Cherry,
sponsored by Bluffton Hospital
Bluffton High School prom takes place this weekend using the theme Tropical Paradise.
Prom is Saturday, April 29, and is moved to Marbeck Center at Bluffton University. Members of the public interested in viewing the decorated prom may visit Marbeck from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.
The public is also invited to view the promenade, which will be held inside due to the weather forecast. The promenade takes place in the Founders Hall gymnasium from 7:50 to 8:30 p.m.
Persons are asked to park in the Elm Street university parking lot if they intend to watch the events in Founders.
Transition Bluffton hosts a river walk along the Little Riley on Sunday, April 23. Naturalist Anne Coburn-Griffis will lead the walk exploring plant and animal life in the Motter Metro Park just outside of Bluffton.
The walk will start at 6 p.m. and last 1-1.5 hours. Walkers will explore park trails and be introduced to creatures that make their home in and along the Little Riley. Participants will need good walking shoes and should bring binoculars and magnifying lenses.
