Maybe just a telescope view - but a good view - Friday night

The ONU Astronomy Club will host a free event for the public at the ONU Observatory on Friday, Nov 4, from 8-10 p.m., according to Dr. Jason Pinkney, professor of Physics and Astronomy.

The theme is "The Blue Planets: Uranus and Neptune." The outermost two Jovian planets both have bluish hues attributed to methane in their atmospheres.  Each planet has an interesting history and unique characteristics.  Uranus is tilted about 98 degrees onto its side so it has the most extreme seasons.

Book ReViews, 123 S. Main St., Bluffton will hold a book signing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, according to Dr. Christina Walton, store manager.

Bluffton resident Barbara Plaugher, RN, BNS and MSN, retired, will sign her book "Perseverance: Mission to the World."

The book is an account of 20 mission trips through Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH).

Plaugher notes that the book offers several humorous and adventurous experiences of a nurse who desires to help others."

ArtSpace/Lima, 65-67 Town Square, Lima,  announces Home for the Holidays 2016, a holiday art sale, to be held Nov. 16 through Dec. 22,according to Bill Sullivan, operations manager.

The sale features all original art from local artists.  Works in 2D (paintings, watercolors, collage, prints, drawings) and 3D (sculpture, ceramics, glass) will be on display, as well as a large selection of hand-crafted jewelry.  All the art is one-of-a-kind and original.

Richland Manor, 7400 Swaney Road, Bluffton, will hold a community Halloween event.

It includes trick-or-treats plus snacks and refreshments and takes place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31, at Richland Manor.

Eat in or carry-out

First United Methodist Church, corner Church and Jackson, will hold an election day lunch and dinner Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dinner is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Lunch menu includes: homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, dessert and beverages. Lunch items are priced separately.

Dinner includes baked steak, mashed potatoes, vegetable, roll, dessert and beverage. Dinner is $8 for adults, $4 for youth ages 5-10.

Carry-out is available for both meals.

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Bluffton food pantry.

Oakwoods Nature Preserve, rural Findlay

A Pizza Planetarium Party will be held at Oakwoods Nature Preserve’s Richard S. “Doc” Phillips Discovery Cente, rural Findlay, on Friday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. 

The moon and Mars will soon be close to each other and the Taurid meteor shower will reach its maximum rate of activity on this night. Pizza will be served and a stellar craft will be available for children to make and take home.
