Dr. Jane Wood, president-elect of Bluffton University, will speak to students, faculty, staff and community members during a public introduction at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 19, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Dr. William J. Hawk ’72, professor of philosophy and ethical reasoning in action at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., will present an Alumni Forum at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, in Yoder Recital Hall.
During his presentation, “Getting Past ‘What Happens in the Ethics Classroom Stays in the Ethics Classroom’: A Strategy for Better Decision Making,” Hawk will discuss research that suggests ethics instruction can improve real-world decision making.
Dr. Steven M. Nolt, senior scholar at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies and professor of history and Anabaptist studies at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa., will present the 2018 C. Henry Smith Peace Lecture at Bluffton University.
During the presentation he will examine the debate over military service and conscientious objection in the increasingly diverse Mennonite community of Virginia’s Tidewater area—home to a concentration of military bases and contractors.

Bluffton improved to 8-2 on the season, notching the best 10-game start in school history! Edgewood fell to 0-1 following its 2018 season opener.
