The owner of Bluffton’s newest business has big plans for thinking small.

Andy Chapell-Dick of Bluffton, a general and remodeling contractor, has started Small House Bluffton, a business whose focus is constructing small, fully-functional houses.

“A lot of people want to go small, not just empty nesters, but people who for a practical basis see the cost of living going up,” Chappell-Dick says, in explaining his new venture.

“Bluffton is a unique community. I’m providing something the community hasn’t seen. It’s different housing option,” he said.

Citizens National Bank invites the public to attend an open house for its newly expanded Operations Center from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 21.

Located just off I-75 at 131 Citizens Parkway, Bluffton, the enlarged facility provides 24 new offices and is home to the following departments:
• Customer Care Center,
• Marketing,
• IT,
• Project Management,
• Operations, Compliance,
• Treasury Management,
• Credit Analysis,
• Restructured Loans and
• Commercial Loan Processing.

The Icon introduces a new music review column. After talking with Bluffton University student Delano D. Whidbee following a journalism class, we knew we found the right guy for the assignment. The sophomore from Flint, Mich., is a broadcasting and journalism major.

He tells us: "Music has always been around my life. The different creative styles interested me from a young age." 

This is more than a serious hobby for Delano. He said, "I check daily to see what new music or exclusive interviews, or music visuals have been released."

Ebenezer Mennonite Church children's choir, Disciple Singers, will present a musical "The Game Plan" at 6 p.m., Sunday, April 28.

The Game Plan is a fun summertime kids' musical about the importance of team work and following the game plan-God's game plan. The story wraps around the adventures of the Tigers soccer team and cheer squad, made up of girls and boys with all different personalities, talents, and skills. 

A concession stand will be open between 5:30-6 p.m. and after the program (donations accepted).

"Pray for America" is the theme of the annual National Day of Prayer, which will be observed at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 2, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church Crossroads Ministry Center.

Once a year Bluffton University schedules a day of seminars led by college professors with a lot of interesting insight to the subjects they teach. The event is called Civic Engagement Day. This year the day took place on April 10.

One of these seminars was hosted by Dr. Darryl Nester a professor of math. He obtained his doctorate in statistics and has also taught many classes training college students how to be more technologically savvy.

The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will celebrate Arbor Day at 11 a.m., Friday, April 26, at the Motter Metro Park, 10740 Bluffton Columbus Grove Road, Bluffton.
