The Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary will hold their annual volunteer recognition banquet Monday, April 22, beginning at noon at The Centre of Bluffton, 601 North Main Street, Bluffton. The awards ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m.

At the event, auxiliary members will be recognized for their hours of volunteer service to the hospital. Overall, the Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary includes 73 volunteers who gave 10,490 hours to the hospital in 2012.

Krysti's Music Studio, 334 S. Main St., Bluffton, now offers art lessons, according to Krysti Schey, studio owner.

The studio also offers piano, guitar, voice and string lessons. For more details contact Schey at 419-233-5255.

Dennis Lee, high school physical education teacher, has announced that he will resign from teaching in the Bluffton schools on April 30. His resignation is part of the Monday Bluffton school board agenda, which requires board action.

In addition to Lee’s resignation, the board prepares for the 2013-14 school year with school fees to approve and certified and classified contracts to act upon. Following are many of those contracts.

Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s is giving people a break on tax day. Area locations will be offering a special promotion on Monday, April 15. Customers who buy one Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese can get a second for just 15 cents.

“Tax Relief Day is one more way we are bringing customers great value,” said Jerry Lewis, local McDonald’s owner. “Our customers look forward to the promotion every year.”

The promotion runs the entire day and is available at McDonald’s in Lima, Delphos, Van Wert, Beaverdam, Bluffton and Ada.

 

Harold W. Spallinger, 86, of Pandora died at 3:20 p.m. April 12, 2013 at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. 

He was born Sept. 18, 1926 in Toledo to Hiram and Gladys Irene Doty Spallinger.  On Oct. 14, 1949, he married Rosalie Clifton and she survives. 

Mr. Spallinger retired from General Dynamics, Lima.  

Mary Jane (Carr) Lugibihl, 96, of Pandora, died at 12:02 p.m. at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, on April 14, 2013. She was born on April 7, 1917, at the family’s “Hickory Farm” near Bluffton, to William G. and Eva M. (Deitler) Carr. She attended grade school at the Hickory One-Room Country School and graduated from Pandora High School where she excelled as a member of the women’s basketball team.

On July 5, 1952, she married Harlan E. Lugibihl who preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1992.

Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va., sent three athletes to Saturday's Mason Spring Invitational, hosted by D-I George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.  The meet,  loaded with D-I athletes, was a final tune-up for the trio for next week's ODAC Championships.

Both of Eastern Mennonite's women ran in the 800m, and freshman Hannah Chappell-Dick (Bluffton) destroyed her own school record and crossed with the top D-III time at the meet.  She flashed across the line in 2:14.34, shaving more than three seconds off her previous record of 2:17.47.
