Two community meals are planned in September at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, under the direction of the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. 

Meal dates:

• Thursday, Sept. 5, served by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio
• Thursday, Sept 19, served by St. John's United Church of Christ.

Meals are free and open to the public and begin at 6 p.m. All monetary donations go to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry.

St. John's United Church of Christ, Bluffton, changes from summer hours to fall hours on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.

The new Sunday hours follow:
• Sunday school, 9:30 a.m.
• Worship, 10:30 a.m.

Bluffton Lions will hold five sight screenings in September. Screenings take place between Sept. 9 and 17. They are held at:

• Bluffton Day Care Center
• Allen East grade school
• Hilty Home Day Care, Pandora
• Bluffton Community Pre-School (two times)

Bluffton's girls' soccer team improved to 2-1 with a 7-0 win over Ada on Aug. 27 at Steinmetz Field.

Bluffton dominated the game by scoring six goals in the first half. The Ada defense pushed forward in the second half holding the pirates to one goal in the second half.

BFR begins its 35th year of recreational programming this fall, according to Carole Enneking, director.

BFR offers fitness options, sport conditioning and development programs, plus leagues for adult and youth.  BFR Sports & Fitness was established in 1978 as a non-profit organization that would provide a variety of activities, classes and leagues for the Bluffton area.

Confused by the Aug. 19 letter you may have received from AEP Ohio? Don't be.

Most Bluffton AEP Ohio users received the letter informing them that a switch is being made from AEP to Firstenergy Solutions Corp. as their new electricity supplier.

As we are closer to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the opening of the Public and Private Health Insurance Exchanges starting Oct. 1, there are still many missing pieces to the puzzle, according to Daryl Steiner of Steiner and Granger Insurance and Financial Services.

"Steiner and Granger, will do its best to help put those pieces in place for our current and future clients as we move forward into this new era of healthcare insurance," Steiner told The Icon.
