Sixteen years ago, as the 2000 presidential election recount in Florida transfixed the nation, the newly elected Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke directly to the likelihood that Al Gore would win the popular vote and still lose the election:

The Bluffton Senior Center has received large donations of yarn and Christmas fabric which are now on sale.

The fabric is $2 a yard and the yarn is $2 and under per skein. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays until Christmas 9 a.m. to noon. The center is closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25.

The show tunes and dance sequences of musical theatre are great forms of escape and entertainment, but those songs and movements are also filled with meaning. 

2011 graduates and musicians, Sarah Diller and Brandon Fullenkamp, explained this when they returned to campus to present, “Changing the World through Artful Performance,” on Nov. 15 during Bluffton University’s weekly Forum.

They used examples from four musicals to explain how musical theater can be an agent for social change and conflict mediation

The competition has two divisions:
• Small Business Improvement Division (for an established business located in the 45817 zip code area). The first place winner receives $1,000. Second place winner receives $500 in gift-in-kind support.

Milton Weida Schutz, 92, died Nov. 17, 2016, at 10:13 a.m. at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Milton was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Pandora to Hiram and Lucille (Weida) Schutz who preceded him in death. On Sept. 22, 1962, he married Barbara Stedke Schutz who survives in Pandora.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's basketball team brought the unseasonably warm weather inside as the Beavers were a red-hot 10-of-14 from distance in the first half en route to a 79-53 victory over OSU-Lima on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016. Bluffton opens the season 1-0 after a dominating performance that saw 14 Beavers crack the scorebook.

Gordon Diller will continue to assist in a reduced schedule

Jon B. Kinn has been named manager of Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services in Bluffton according to an announcement by Bob Laman,
president, and Gordon Diller, secretary-treasurer.

Kinn is a 1993 graduate of Bluffton High School and 1997 graduate of Bluffton College. He has literally grown up with the company, having started by mowing lawns and washing cars in the summer of 1991.

To the question, ““Why did you start baking hickory nut pies?” pie-baker Oliver Lugibihl replied, “I probably didn’t have any pecans.”

Then came a grin.

The grin occurred between his breaking a jumbo Moser egg and measuring out some Watkins vanilla, which he insists he likes better than other vanilla, “because of its stronger flavor.”

Known as the hickory nut pie man, Icon viewers have a rare, seasonal opportunity to purchase one his masterpiece pies on Friday.

Bluffton High School senior Trevor Bassitt signed a Letter of Intent to participate in track and field at Ashland University. The signing was on Nov. 16.

Trevor will join Coach Jud Logan and the Ashland University track team next fall.

As a high school track athlete, Trevor is the school’s record holder in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.53. He is a two-time state qualifier in the 110m hurdles, a qualifier in the high jump, and won the Division III 110m hurdles in 2016. 

Trevor has been named to the Academic All-Ohio Track and Field Team, in 2015 and 2016.

The Sports Warehouse, 111 N. Main St., Bluffton, will host a "pop-up boutique," during the afternoon of the Blaze of Lights, according to Natalie Mueller, owner.
