Bluffton Familly Recreation SilverSneaker participants were treated to a holiday breakfast on Dec. 21 from Good Samaritan Manor, Arlington. Emily Rettig, director of social services, sales and marketing, delivered the breakfast to the nearly two dozen SilverSneaker members.

HIRAM, Ohio -The Bluffton University men’s basketball team hit the road to face the Hiram College Terriers on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Despite a strong start to the contest for the Beavers, they would fall to the Terriers 79-61. The loss dropped the Beavers to 3-6 (2-2 HCAC) for the season.

In September, Jim Jordan endorsed Roy Moore for Alabama Senate with this statement:

Deborah Boisselle name one of top bank advisors in U.S.

Deborah Boisselle, an advisor with the investment center offered through Citizens National Bank, was recently recognized as one of the nation’s Top 100 Bank Advisors for 2017.

The recognition was from Bank Investment Consultant (BIC), an information source for bank and credit union financial advisors.

According to BIC, its annual Top 100 list recognizes successful bank and credit union advisors from throughout the country who have excelled in a number of key areas, including growth of the assets they serve.

The South Gate Lanes mixed doubles Saturday night bowling league is collecting for the Bluffton food pantry on Saturday, Dec. 23, according to bowlers in that league.

They invite Icon views to stop at the bowling alley and provide additional donations.

 

And, thanks to BFR, they are on their way to be repurposed

‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through Bluffton…5,550 pairs of repurposed shoes were loaded into a large Penske truck instead of a landfill.

Or so goes the poem.

It's true. Could you have guessed that many shoes would be donated by area residents to Bluffton Family Recreation just since October?

BFR’s goal was to collect 200 bags – there are 25 pair of shoes per bag – and 550 pairs topped that ambitious goal.

Police continue to accept tax-deductible donations for K-9 unit

The Bluffton Police Department continues to accept tax-deductible donations for its K-9 Unit, according to Sergeant Tyler Hochstetler of the department.

"We have had a tremendous amount of community support for the canine and will continually accepting donations made to the unit," he said.

"Donations made to the department will help purchase a dual-purpose patrol/narcotics canine, canine school, equipment and items to outfit the canine cruiser to make for a safe working environment for the dog."

Cheryl Wagler, 66, died Dec. 18, 2017, at 9:45 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in Lima. She was born Oct. 12, 1951, in Lima, Ohio, to Neil and Shirley (Hawk) Wagler.  

Cheryl graduated from Leipsic High School in 1969. Soon after high school, she began her career at Philips Display Components Company in Ottawa. Cheryl worked there for 30 years until they closed their doors in the early 2000’s.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The NCAA Division III recently announced the recipients of Academic All-Ohio honors for the 2017 campaign. Three Bluffton University soccer players were honored for their performance on the field and in the classroom this season.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team scored its sixth straight win at John Carroll on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017. Bluffton improved to 7-1 following the 71-54 victory, while the Blue Streaks slipped to 2-7 on the season.
