From Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)

Bluffton Hospital cardiopulmonary department has received an additional three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the area of Adult Transthoracic.

This accreditation demonstrates the hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care in echocardiography.

Echocardiography, or echo, is used to assess different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease or signs of serious conditions.

It carries all the pomp and circumstance of any graduation ceremony, but it is one of a kind in the 139-year history of Bluffton High School commencements.

The Bluffton High School commencement tradition is the longest-standing annual event in our community. It didn’t take place this year, or did it? The answer is both yes and no. 

The live, audience commencement was tabled. However, the school put together a video of what it would have  looked like, had it actually taken place.

Robert D. (Bob) Bowersox, 93, of Bluffton, formerly of Mt. Cory, died Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Mennonite Home in Bluffton. 

He was born on March 14, 1927, in Mt. Cory, to the late John and Anna (Gorby) Bowersox.  On June 11, 1948, he married Thelma M. Welty at St. John Mennonite Church,  Pandora. Thelma preceded Bob in death on Nov. 23, 2010. 

Bluffton Family Recreation opens its doors - here's what you need to know

Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road, has reopened its doors to members. Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director provided the Icon with the following guidesllines and summer scheduling:

This summer we are offering a more limited group exercise schedule. TRX and Weight Lifting 101 are limited to five participants per class in order to maintain social distancing and the safety protocols put in place for gyms. Register on the BFR website or call BFR at 419-358-4150.

Et Cetera Shop reopens with limited hours and customer guidelines

One of Bluffton's favorite Main Street shops – Et Cetera, 327 N. Main St. – has reopened, according to Chrissy Lugibihl, manager.

The store is limiting donations hours through the end of June, to evaluate its inventory. Current donation times are Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

New hours through the end of June:
Mondays 1-5 p.m.
Wednesdays 1-5 p.m.
Fridays 1-5 p.m.

FROM ADA ICON - Evelyn R. “Myrtle” Krofft, 95, died on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at 1:35 p.m. at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Walter and Ethel (Howe) Wolff.  On May 31, 1947, Evelyn married Robert M. Krofft and he preceded her in death.

Evelyn was the produce manager for the Ada Harris IGA for nine years. She was a homemaker. She attended the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Dola. She was a 1943 graduate of Southwest High School in Detroit, Michigan. 

The Village of Bluffton announced its plan in making the switch of new trash and recycle carts from Republic to Reumpke. The details follow: 
• New trash and recycle carts from Rumpke are being delivered next week
 (June 1 to 5)

• All Republic carts must be placed curbside during your normal pick up day of June 1 or June 3

• Only return the new Rumpke carts to your home

• Leave Republic carts at the curb until they are picked up
  (Will be completed by end of the week of June 5)

Donald K. Burry, 77, died May 27, 2020 at his residence.  Don was born April 12, 1943, in Bluffton to the late Arthur and B. Eileen (Fralick) Burry. He married Mary Ann Schaffner on July 20, 1963, and they were divorced.  He later married Lana Mabry on April 18, 1998.
