Here's today's installment of the Bluffton High School Class of 2020 Senior Spotlight. Each weekday until the end of May the Icon will feature photos and future plans for four BHS seniors. This is our second installment in the series. Students will be featured in a four-set random order. 

Most viewers in the recent Icon poll have primarily come into contact only with immediate household members in April. Here's the results of the poll.

CDC recommends to wear cloth face coverings

The number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at publication time, 828,441 coronavirus cases and 46,379 related deaths had been reported in the US.

I-75 northbound SR 103 entrance ramp will close on May 3 for 2 weeks

Several Interstate 75 construction updates affect local traffic patterns next week. The following information is from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

• I-75 southbound entrance ramp from SR 696 in Beaverdam will close on Sunday, May 3 for five days.

• Detour: I-75 north to SR 103 to I-75 south (see map below).

• Traffic pattern through the SR 696 interchange will change as an I-75 southbound will shift one lane onto the northbound side beginning Monday, April 27.

652 businesses in 10-county area with 12,524 employees; loan total $97.5 million

Citizens National Bank announce on Friday that 100 percent of the loans its customers requested through the Paycheck Protection Program have been approved through the Small Business Administration, according to Eric Faulkner, bank president. 

This represents 652 businesses in the bank’s 10-county service area, allowing those businesses to continue payroll for 12,524 employees. The approved loan total is currently $97,511,807.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Dr. Amy Acton, MD, MPH, this week provided the following updates on Ohio's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

PPE DELIVERY:

Governor DeWine announced that the state of Ohio has shipped 4.1 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to local emergency management agencies (EMA) across Ohio. 

Although this is not the first shipment of PPE, this is the largest one-time distribution of PPE from the state of Ohio to the local EMAs in Ohio history.

Private graveside service planned

Patsy Linda Davies, 75, died May 1, 2020, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.  Patsy was born June 2, 1944, in Lima to the late Pasquale and Amelita (Taviano) Caruso.  She was raised by her mother and father, Joseph Simone.  On May 30, 1963, she married Morgan Davies who survives.

Patsy was a 1962 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School.  She worked at Bluffton Day Care, Cherry Corner Shoe Repair then DTR Industries in Bluffton and retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton.

14-page document spells out the rules for Ohioans to adhere as the Buckeye State begins to reopen

It’s a 14-page, single-spaced document titled “Director’s stay safe Ohio order.”

Written by Dr. Amy Acton, M.D., director of the Ohio Department of Health, the document spells out the rules for Ohioans to adhere as the Buckeye State tiptoes to a reopening.

The entire document is attached at the bottom of this story.

Among areas of special interest to Ohioans is a list of closed businesses and operations. Also listed are dates of re-openings set other businesses and services. Among businesses and institutions to remain closed include schools.
