William “Bill” W. Faine of Bluffton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021. He went to live in paradise with his savior, Jesus. He was 59 years old.
Bill married Jodi Woodruff on August 18, 1984 who survives, along with their children; Lauren (Ralph) Cuellar, W. Wells II (Laura), Mitchell, and Sidney. He was “Pop-Pop” to five grandchildren; Katie, Annabelle and Will W. Faine III, Rafael “RJ” Cuellar Jr., and Roman Cuellar.
Bluffton Public Library will host Village Story Walk II with Fred Steiner on October 4 and 5 at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each evening.
The library announcement notes, "Wear your walking shoes and meet us at the Presbyterian Church gazebo to hear some more stories about the historic town of Bluffton, Ohio!"
Fred Steiner will lead the walking tour from 101 N. Main St. to 147 N. Main St. across Main St., then back across Main St. to return from the Town Hall and to the Presbyterian Church.
Bluffton University has announced groundbreaking ceremonies for the Austin E. Knowlton Science Center. Located in the heart of campus, the groundbreaking will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 1.
Speaking at the event will be President Jane M. Wood and Ed Diller, former trustee for Bluffton University and current board member for the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation.
The visiting Bluffton girls soccer team fell behind early but rallied behind a singular effort to post a 5-1 win over backyard league rival Allen East Tuesday night.
Junior Sami Scoles fired in a single-game personal-best four goals to carry the visitors to the Northwest Conference victory.
The defending league champion Pirate girls improved their record to 6-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the NWC after the win.
AE fell to 2-4-2 and 0-2-2 in NWC play with the defeat.
The Bluffton University volleyball team made the short trip north on Interstate 75 to take on Head Coach Steve Yarnell's alma mater, the University of Findlay. The Oilers won 25-17 and 25-18 before Bluffton nearly pushed it to four sets. The Beavers led by as many as five points, but could not put it away, dropping the clincher 25-23. Bluffton fell to 6-9 on the season, while Findlay upped its mark to 6-1.
Tuesday marked the first meeting between the two schools since 2009.
The Bluffton University men's soccer team traveled east across US 30 to the College of Wooster on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. The Fighting Scots had too much firepower as the home team improved to 6-2 with a 4-1 victory over the Beavers. Bluffton fell to 3-2 on the season.
Wooster went up 1-0 at the 5:07 mark when Luca Napora connected with Alex Pollitt for his first goal of the season. Bluffton responded in minute 13 when senior stalwart Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) intercepted a Wooster pass and made the home team pay with his team-leading 7th goal of the season.
The Corporate Public Relations and Marketing department at Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) recently welcomed Austin Arnold to the team, in the role of communications coordinator. In this position, Arnold is responsible for writing and editing internal and external communication throughout the health system, including weekly newsletters and news releases. Arnold will also serve as the main point of contact for all media inquiries.

Micaela C. Deming, staff attorney and policy director at the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, presented Bluffton University’s annual Constitution Day Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021. Deming’s presentation was titled “The Constitution Versus Domestic and Sexual Violence Survivors: The Inherent Conflicts Keeping Women in Danger.”
Ellen A. Johnson, 96, passed away September 20, 2021 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. Ellen was born February 4, 1925 in Bluffton to the late Ezra and Irene (Fogelsonger) Basinger. On August 26, 1944 she married Ivan Johnson who preceded her in death on April 4, 1985.
Ellen was a graduate of Bluffton High School and the Bluffton Hospital Nursing School. She was an LPN at Bluffton Hospital. Ellen was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church, Bluffton.
