Bluffton High School proudly recognizes Grace Lemley as the September student of the month. Grace is the daughter of Jeremy and Christina Lemley of Bluffton. 

Grace is a senior at Bluffton and has a 4.0 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society and takes College Credit Plus courses at Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Rhodes State College.

 The Village of Bluffton has scheduled a meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee on Tuesday, October 8 at noon.  

This public meeting will be at the Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main St.

As Ohioans step up to support storm relief efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene throughout much of the southeastern United States, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Financial Institutions urge those who want to donate to be careful and make sure that the organizations they support with financial donations are legitimately helping victims of the storm.

Have you ever forgotten to take a couple of doses of your antibiotics? Have you ever saved your antibiotics “just in case” you need them in the future? Have you ever taken someone else’s antibiotic? Answering yes to any of these questions contributes to increased antibiotic resistance, which is a worldwide issue.

Teresa J. Forbes, 66, passed away October 3, 2024, after an extended illness in Bluffton, Ohio. 

She was born June 22, 1958, in Angola, Indiana, to the late Arthur (A.J.) and Marcia Forbes.

Teresa spent her life’s work as a paramedic for DeKalb, Lagrange, and Steuben counties in Indiana. She loved spending time with family and her labradors, Lacey, Anne, and Hercules. 

Teresa is survived by her sister, Tami Forbes, and brothers, Bill (Delores) Forbes, and Scotty Forbes.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton High School volleyball team swept visiting Northwest Conference rival Spencerville on October 3 to retain sole possession of second place in the league.

The Pirates improved to 17-3 overall and 5-1 in the NWC after the dominating 25-16, 25-11, 25-5 victory. The Bluffton spikers won for the 16th time in 18 matches. 

Last-place Spencerville dropped to 5-13 overall and 1-5 in NWC play with the defeat.

Kendall Stackhouse and Libby Hocanson each smashed nine kills to pace the Pirate hitters.

LEWIS CENTER - The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost 4-1 at non-conference foe Olentangy Thursday evening, October 3.  

The Pirate record fell to 8-4-1 overall after the defeat. The Braves improved to 10-2-1 with the victory. 

Olentangy led 2-0 at halftime.

Addy Moore scored in the 27th minute, followed by a Taylor Novak netter three minutes later.

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost 2-1 to visiting perennial power Ottawa Hills at Steinmetz Field Thursday night, October 3.

The loss snapped a six-match Pirate win streak. OH scored twice in the final 20 minutes to rally for the win.

The Pirate record dropped to 8-7 overall after the tough loss. Ottawa Hills improved to 10-3-1 with the win.

The defensive battle was scoreless at halftime.

MAUMEE BAY – Bluffton senior Evan Speicher competed at the 57-player Div. II northwest district golf tournament Thursday at the Maumee Bay State Park course.

Speicher finished in a five-way tie for 26th place with an 18-hole score of 46-42=88.

Only the top two teams and the top two individual finishers from non-qualifying teams advanced to the state tournament next week.

Upper Sandusky senior Brock Montgomery won the district individual title with a round of 35-38=73.
