Geraldine Mae Grismore Bucher 1917-2010
Geraldine Mae Grismore Bucher, 93, died Oct. 22, 2010, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. She was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Bluffton to Allen and Cora Burkholder Grismore. Geraldine married S. Vinton Bucher on May 4, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Good Friday, 2009.
Mrs. Bucher graduated from Bluffton High School and attended Bluffton College. Geraldine and Vinton lived and worked on a farm next to her parent's farm. She worked as a telephone operator in Pandora and then at Triplett Corp. for more than 20 years.
Her love of music led her to be a church organist, pianist for various quartets and youth choir director. She sang in the Messiah at Bluffton University for more than 60 years. She volunteered as a poll worker and at Et Cetera.
Survivors include a daughter, Devon Brust of Centerville, a son, Ken (Janice) Bucher of Elk River, Minn., five grandchildren, Ryan and Cory (Ramie) Bucher, Erica (Jeffrey) Bucher Maxson, Adam and Danah Brust; a great-grandson, Jerald Bucher, great-granddaughter Lillian Bucher, a step great-granddaughter, Emma Bennett, and a sister, Bonnie Grismore Kruse.
She was preceded in death by infant daughter Jan Kay Bucher and two brothers, Retired Major Dale Grismore and George Grismore.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton. Rev. Dick Potter will officiate.
Burial will be in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Mennonite Memorial Home on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. lead by Chaplain Bill Herr and Pastor Charles Warren.
Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Mennonite Church or the Mennonite Memorial Home.
