Wayne E. Marquart, retired farmer, was a 1953 Cory-Rawson HS graduate

Retired Eagle Township farmer, Wayne E. Marquart, died at 2:03 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

Wayne was born Dec. 18, 1934 near Jenera, Ohio, to the late Clifford and Leona (Benner) Marquart. He married Barbara Grose on Feb. 20, 1955.

Wayne and Barbara lived in Schwabach/Nuremburg, Germany, in 1956 and 1957
where he was stationed with the 56th Field Artillery Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, US Army.

Wow! Look at all those youth classes this fall at BFR

Rookie sports, basketball, dodgeball, tiny tots, soccer and swim lessons

Several November and December programs for youth gett underway this week at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

Here’s the class update:
Rookie sports - Tuesdays, 4:15-5 p.m.
For ages 4-6, youngsters will play a variety of sports

K-3 basketball - Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
For youth from Kindergarten, first, second and third grades

It's the 1950s all over again in the first grade!

Dressing the part, listening to doo wop, bubblegum-blowing contests...

Bluffton first graders went back to the future – at least back to the 1950s, earlier this week.

Celebrating the 50th day of the school year, students dressed like they were voting for Eisenhower or Stevenson.

Teri Steinmetz, teacher, said, “We celebrated our 50th day of school by dressing up and doing activities like we are living in the 1950s.”

She added, “We did a bubblegum blowing contest, made root beer floats, listened to oldies, and did many activities about the number 50.

Senior citizen Christmas garage sale Nov. 11

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Center Christmas Garage Sale, 132 N. Main St., will hold a Christmas garage this this weekend.

Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 12.

Items will include decorations, trees, ornaments, crafts, lights, music angels, Santas, snowmen and more.

Blanchard River watershed study in the works

Focus on rewarding producers and rural residents in clean water efforts

The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership is partnering with The Ohio State University on a study of how to reward producers and rural residents for their efforts to improve local water quality in the Blanchard River watershed. 

The study will be conducted by Dr. Richard Moore, emeritus professor of the School of Environment and Natural Resources and Yanting Guo, Ph.D student in the Environmental Science Graduate Program at The Ohio State University.
