Jeff Gundy to discuss book projects Nov. 2

Jeff Gundy, professor of English at Bluffton University, will devote a campus colloquium on Friday, Nov. 2, to three book projects aided by the Naomi E. Lehman Faculty Scholarship Grant he received last year. Free and open to the public, his presentation will begin at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall.

Gundy, who also chairs Bluffton’s Humanities Division, will discuss—and read from—“The Other Side of Empire,” a nonfiction work about his 2008 experience as a Fulbright Scholar in Salzburg, Austria; “Songs from an Empty Cage: Poetry, Anabaptism, Mystery, and Peace,” which explores theological issues and questions through poetry; and “Somewhere Near Defiance,” also a book of poetry.

The Lehman grant recipient worked last year on all three books, each of which is now awaiting publication. The Salzburg manuscript is under consideration by a publisher, while the latter two books are scheduled for release in the next two years by Cascadia Press and Anhinga Press, respectively.
