The Bluffton University softball team split a doubleheader with Manchester on Wednesday, April 3, in the first conference matchup of the season for both squads. Bluffton took game one by the score of 14-9, and Manchester bounced back in game two for a 14-6 victory. Bluffton is now 5-15 on the season (1-1 HCAC), while Manchester is sitting at 6-8 (1-1 HCAC). Both teams had the bats warmed up as they scored a combined 43 runs in two games!

Saturday concert in Yoder Recital Hall

Prepare to dance along in your seat during Bluffton University’s Jazz Ensemble and Gospel Choir concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in Yoder Recital Hall.

The performance is free and open to the public; however, a free-will offering will be taken during intermission for music scholarships.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Liebermann, will perform a diverse program of music ranging from the jazz ballad “Angel Eyes” to the music of Oliver Nelson and 1960s groove tunes by Duke Pearson.

John Sharp shared changing the world one lift at a time

During Bluffton University’s annual Keeney Peace Lecture, John Sharp shared “Changing the World One Life at a Time: The MJ Sharp Story.” The lecture took place on March 26, just days from the two year anniversary of the confirmation of MJ’s murder in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While the details of MJ’s death continue to be a mystery, Sharp shared the details of MJ’s life that left a tangible impression on the world.

“Who was MJ,” questioned Sharp. “He was like you. Don’t think you can’t do what he did.”

Makayla Noble, senior education major, talks about her university experience

Bluffton University early childhood education major Makayla (Smith) Noble, a 2015 Bluffton HS grad, found meaningful community on campus through her involvement in Bluffton Education Organization (BEO).

The organization provided early opportunities that allowed her to become part of the world of teaching before even starting her career.

Bluffton University senior Jena O’Brien will present “Crisis Communication in Higher Education: A Rhetorical Analysis of Larry Nassar and Michigan State” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Reading Room of Musselman Library. 

O’Brien will describe the importance and process of issuing public apologies during her presentation. She will also look at the specific language used in public apologies.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Bluffton University baseballl team split a pair of 7-6 decisions with rival Defiance College in the opening HCAC series for both teams on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Bluffton moved to 10-10 and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Defiance stands 10-6-1 with a similar 1-1 mark in the HCAC.

An Elisha Tressler (Bryan) RBI single in the second followed by a Parker Reynolds (Avon) run-scoring base knock in the third were sandwiched around three Defiance tallies as the Yellow Jackets led 3-2 heading to the fourth inning.
