Bluffton's O'Reilly named Heartland pitcher of the week

Garrett O'Reilly (Galena/Orange) has been named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week after helping Bluffton University to a pair of Good Friday victories at Earlham College over the weekend. O'Reilly follows on the heels of freshman Andrew Collinsworth (Westerville/Westerville South) who was honored a week earlier after a complete game victory over Manchester University.

Burden and Rose to perform senior recitals

Evan Burden, a music education major, will present his Bluffton University senior recital at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Burden will sing several selections including: “Grow For Me” by Alan Menken, “O di Capellio” by Vincenzo Bellini and “Oh! quand je dors” by Franz Liszt.

Alex Rose, a music major with a concentration in performance studies, will present their Bluffton University senior recital at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in Yoder Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the lobby.

April 24 Spring Fling concert at Bluffton University

Several of Bluffton University’s performance groups will perform a selection of lighter tunes during the Spring Fling concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 in Yoder Recital Hall.

Brass Ensemble will perform selections originally written for other genres that have been re-imagined as brass music while Concert Band’s performance will include arrangements of a popular folk song, a Broadway show tune and a unique piece which mixes electronic and acoustic sounds. Both groups will be conducted by Dr. Roy Couch.

University athletics awards April 19

Bluffton University will recognize its top student-athletes at the annual Athletics Awards Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Two awards will be presented. Bluffton’s top senior male athlete will receive the A.C. Burcky Award, while the top senior female athlete will receive the Kathryn E. Little Award.

Modern Minimalism explored during university's Civic Engagement Day

Bluffton University’s year-long exploration of the theme “Cultivating Modern Minimalism: Planet, People and Popular Culture” culminated on April 6 with Civic Engagement Day. The event, which had been shuttered for the past two years due to COVID-19 restrictions, returned with students attending in-person sessions based on the theme instead of their typical class schedules.

2022 Bluffton University commencement speaker announced

Peter Strange, chairman emeritus of Messer, Inc., will address Bluffton University’s 2022 graduating class during the May 7 Commencement ceremony at Salzman Stadium.
