Accounting, the IRS and New Year's Eve

Numbers scare me. Math scares me. The IRS scares me. April 15 scares me. You get the picture...the tax man cometh every year and every year I remember exactly why I did not pursue a career in accounting.

When our kids were babies, we'd tuck them into bed on New Year's Eve with the help of Reema, our then college-age friend/nanny/godmother. Not that we couldn't have put them to bed without her help, but the fact is, we -- Fred -- couldn't do the taxes without her.

By Andr'e Swartley

Issue #14
Sacrifice
Developer: Shiny Entertainment
Publisher: Interplay
Platform: PC
Rating: M for Mature

Several days ago, gamers all over the world cried out in anguish at the news that the Playstation Portable release of Shiny Entertainment's classic platformer Earthworm Jim had been canceled. A laugh a day

I married my husband because a.) he made me laugh; b.) he liked to do the dishes, c.) he got a 100 percent approval rating from all four of my brothers and d.) he was as weird as I was.

Okay, so there were other reasons. He was kind of cute. He liked to go shopping. To malls. He was cheaper than I was. And oh yeah, there was that little thing called love.

Goat's butts, outdoor ovens and life on the farm

My sister-in-law recently commented on her blog that her life must seem boring to those who read about it. I think she's dead wrong. If only she knew how often I read her blog not just because she's my beloved sister-in-law, but because I need to be entertained. Not a blog goes by that doesn't get at least one laugh or "awwwwwwwww" out of me.

Let's have chili rellenos at the party!

Nancy Yeager shares this recipe which she obtained from Mary and Mike Edmiston. She says that it's a great party favorite.

Chili Rellenos

1 lb. cheddar cheese, grated
1 lb. Monterey Jack, grated
12 oz. evaporated milk
4 eggs
chopped green chili (2 cans works well)
8 oz. tomato sauce (optional)

Grease a 9x13 pan. Layer half of the chili (1 can) on the bottom. Next layer all the cheddar cheese, then the remaining chili ( or can), and the jack cheese. Beat the egg whites and yolks separately.
