Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters 9th annual fall festival quilt show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Bluffton elementary school gym. It is part of the Bluffton fall festival, which has events taking place in several other locations in the community.
Quilt registration takes place Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Forever in Stitches, 120 N. Main St., Bluffton.
All community quilters are welcome to display their quilts. All quilts must be registered to be exhibited.
Bluffton's neighbor, Ada, is celebrating its oldest community event this weekend. It's the 100th anniversary year for the Ada Farmers' and Merchants' Picnic.
The Icon's sister publication, Ada Icon, provides this schedule for Ada's weekend events. The two-day event at the War Memorial Park takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10.
The Allen County Historical Society's "Riding the Rails" train excursion is planned Sunday, Sept. 22. The passenger train wll be pulled by former Nickel Plate Road diesel 901, repainted as 902.
The trip covers 42 miles round trip on the Genesee and Wyoming Road, courtesy of the Cincinnati Railway Co. Four coach cars will be pulled by 902.
Three excursions are planned with departure times at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The round trips are from Lincoln Park, Lima, to Jackson Center and return.
The Bluffton/Pandora Youth for Christ Campus Life will hold a chicken barbecue from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, prior to the Bluffton vs. Pandora-Gilboa football scrimmage. The barbecue is at the Arthur-Lugibihl Community Center in Pandora.
Tickets are $7 and includes chicken, green beans, potato and roll.
