Bluffton Arts and Crafts Show vendor registrations available

With several inches of snow on the ground, how could anyone think of the Bluffton arts and crafts show? Actually, it's a pretty good time to start.

Shannon Theatre lines up 'The Hobbit' starting Friday

The Shannon Theatre will be showing 'The Hobbit' (PG-13) starting Friday, according to Peter Suter, Theatre manager.

Running from Friday, Feb. 8 through Wednesday, Feb. 13, showtimes will include:

  • Every evening at 7:00 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 PM.
  • The Shannon Theatre will have neither a 9:30 p.m. evening show nor a 4 p.m. weekend matinee due to the 2 hr and 45 minute length of the film.

And in case you're wondering what starts on Valentine's Day, Feb 14, it's 'Escape from the Planet of the Apes' (PG).

SHANNON Service Club's 10th annual community garage sale Feb. 22-23

The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton is sponsoring its 10th annual community garage sale this month, according to Duane Bollenbacher of the club. From 30 to 35 vendors are expected to participate.

This year's event is Friday, Feb 22, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. toto noon, at The Centre at Bluffton, 601 N. Main St.  

Parking is free and admission is $1.

Canadian theatre troupe performs story about Vietnam War conscientious objector

A Canadian theatre troupe, Theatre of the Beat, will perform "Gadfly: Sam Steiner Dodges the Draft," the story of  Vietnam War conscientious objector, at 1:30 p.m.,  Sunday, Feb. 10, in Bluffton University’s Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall.

The performance is open to the public for a $5 suggested donation.

The drama is about Sam Steiner, now retired, who served for 30 years as librarian and archivist at Conrad Grebel University College, Waterloo, Ontario.

Keeping Active free programs continue at BFR

The fourth week of Keeping Active’s free fitness and nutritional programs is underway at BFR Sports & Fitness. The week will feature a Family Fun Night, plus free walking days, exercise classes and demonstrations.

Innovative cello concert Feb. 17 in Town Hall Concert Series

Robert Clemens, Toledo Symphony cellist, will perform at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Town Hall Concert Series. Food serving takes place at 6:30 p.m., according to Wendy Chappell-Dick of the Village Cultural Affairs Committee, concert sponsors.

Robert Clemens Town Hall Concert is being titled "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue."

The first half of his concert will be “something old,” and totally acoustic in nature: Bach’s unaccompanied First suite, G Major.
