When Betty Picklesimer heard about the group from St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, that was going to go to Haiti in February, she wondered what she could do to help support such an effort.

The group needed volunteers to go and work on construction crews, to help with the medical needs, and to teach about healthy living and how to avoid getting cholera and other infections.

Is pie baking something you enjoy? Do your family and friends beg for you to make pies? You may want to enter your favorite pie in the upcoming Maple Crest pie contest. The contest is held at Maple Crest.

The contest is Friday, Feb. 11. Judging begins at 4 p.m. There are three entry categories:

Randy Garmatter won The Bluffton Icon's holiday bowl football contest in a three-way playoff. Garmatter, Matt Amstuz and Rick Emmert were tied with 18 wins each at the conclusion of the regular contest.

To settle the tie, each were asked to pick winners of three additional bowl games.

Garmatter picked three correct
Amstutz picked two correct
Emmert picked one correct

Brendon Matthews

Brendon Matthews has been promoted to Senior Vice President/Sales Director at First National Bank.

Matthews joined First National in 2006. He holds a bachelor's degree in English and an MBA from Anderson University. Matthews has nine years of banking experience between his time in Anderson, Ind., and Bluffton. He works in the Bluffton office of First National Bank.

He is active in several civic and community organizations including the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs, where he serves as board president.

Beginnings

Gregg Luginbuhl, Bluffton artist, recently had one of his works featured in BioLogos website, which focuses on science and faith in dialogue. Mark Sprinkle is the blog writer and he reviewed Luginbuhl's "Creation Series (1989-90)", Polychrome Raku-fired pottery. The art is a permanent display in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton University campus.

Rhythm In Motion Dance Centre' of Ada will send 17 area dancers to Cleveland to dance Prime Time performance at 7 p.m. pre-game of the Cleveland Cavs vs. Chicago Bulls battle on Friday, April 18, according to Darcy Schneider of the studio.

"Rhythm in Motion Dance Centre' was invited back to Quickens Loans Arena to perform in this once in a lifetime performance for the second year in a row," she said.

Scheider submitted an audition tape to the Cavs and RIMDC was selected again for the 2010-2011 season.
