Bluffton loses 75-54 to Hanover men

The Bluffton University men's basketball team battled HCAC heavyweight Hanover on Saturday, Dec. 4, dropping a 75-64 decision to the Panthers. Bluffton slipped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover stays perfect at 5-0 and 2-0 in the HCAC.

Bluffton boys stifled by Liberty-Benton

Bluffton lost 51-29 to Liberty-Benton Saturday night, December 4, in a non-league home game.

The cold-shooting Pirates fell behind 18-6 early and were down 26-13 at halftime. L-B led 39-22 after three periods and cruised to the 22-point win.

Trenton Donley was the lone Pirate in double figures with 13 points. Marek Donaldson added seven markers.

Bluffton was unable to score more than nine points in any quarter.

Bluffton fell to 1-1 with the defeat, while L-B improved to 3-1 with the victory.

Eagle Cason Doolittle led all scorers with 21 points.

Pirate girls edged by Big Green

The Bluffton girls basketball team was nipped 52-48 by visiting Ottoville in non-league girls basketball play Saturday afternoon, December 4.

The Lady Pirates were knocked from the undefeated ranks at 4-1 with the close loss. The Big Green improved to 1-3 with the win.

Bluffton trailed 15-9 after the opening period, and was behind 23-19 at intermission. The Pirate girls stayed within 34-31 heading to the final stanza, but couldn't close the gap.

Bluffton women handed 63-53 loss at Hanover

The Bluffton University women's basketball team struggled to put points on the board in a 63-53 loss at Hanover College on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. Bluffton fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference, while the Panthers moved to 4-2 and 1-0 in the HCAC.

Maddie Fitzpatrick (Mount Gilead) opened the game with a deuce and Sammy Shardo (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) converted an old-fashioned three-point play as Bluffton led 9-7 after an offensively-challenged first quarter.

Bluffton HS swim team season opener

The Bluffton High School swim team coached by Rachel Diller and assistant coaches Bob Verb and Stephanie McMahon, started their 2021-22 season on Thursday, December 2 with a nonleague meet at the Putnam County YMCA, 101 Putnam Pkwy. The boys and girls rosters are attached to this article.

Bluffton girls smother Musketeers, remain undefeated

The visiting Bluffton girls basketball team raced to a big early lead and defeated Fort Jennings 59-19 in non-league girls basketball play Thursday night, December 2.

The Lady Pirates stayed unbeaten at 4-0 with the one-sided win. FJ fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Bluffton led 22-7 after the opening period, and stretched the margin to 39-9 by intermission. The Pirate girls limited FJ to just five points over the middle two quarters.
