Beavers give unbeaten Adrian a scare (softball)

The Bluffton University softball team hosted undefeated and #14 Adrian College on March 31 in a doubleheader and lost 5-0 and 1-0 in a thrilling nine-inning nightcap. The Beavers fell to 10-9 on the season while Adrian stayed perfect at 20-0.

The Bulldogs opened the third inning with a single from Katrina Wotten. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored following a Bluffton miscue.

Nine new advertisers join The Icon in March

Nine new advertisers have joined The Bluffton Icon as regular advertisers in March, according to Fred Steiner of The Icon. The new advertisers are:

o Celebration of Health Association, 122 Thurman St., Bluffton. It is currently offering several free health-related seminars. The April 4 seminar subject is "Fatigue, Allergies and Stress."

Buckeye Quarry to be open for swimming this summer as sesquicentennial project

Although the Buckeye quarry hasn't been used for over 10 years for public swimming that will change this year. As part of Bluffton's sesquicentennial the quarry will reopen for swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Service clubs, individuals are businesses are being invited to contribute funds to construct a low diving board to the quarry. If enough funds are collected, a medium dive may also be put into place. An anonymous donor has paid for a raft and rope to designate the swimming area in the quarry.

Senior Citizens Day May 12 in Lima

The annual Allen County "Senior Citizens Day" will be celebrated Thursday, May 12, beginning with a family style lunch at noon at the K of C Hall on South Cable Road in Lima.

Entertainment will be provided by the Al Best Band from 1:00-3:00 pm.

The event is a combined effort between Senior Citizens Services and the Allen County Council on Aging.

Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at Senior Citizens Services, 3400 W. Elm St., Lima, or the Allen County Council on Aging 215 N. Central, Lima. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
