The community garden at Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora is now taking reservations for the 2014 gardening season. Plots are 30 x 35 feet in size and are located on the grounds of the church building at 502 East Main Street, Pandora.

Water is available periodically during the summer. A donation of $30 is suggested for use of the plot. To reserve a garden plot, phone Carolyn at 419-384-3829.

These plots have been prepared as a community service to Pandora, Bluffton, and other area communities. Anyone who is interested in gardening is welcome.

Trinity’s Lenten Service is canceled for tonight, Wednesday, March 12.

Looking ahead to next week, a third week Lenten Service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19.

Pastor Ken Engdahl of Grace Lutheran Church, Kenton, will preach on “The Garden of Proclamation” from Mark 4:26-29 as the Lenten series, “From Garden to Glory” continues.

 

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community meal on Wednesday, March 26th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora.

The meal this month is provided by Sprunger Insurance and family. The menu will be spaghetti, bread sticks, salad, dessert and beverage.

 

The churches of Pandora and Gilboa are offering food boxes for households in the Pandora-Gilboa School District.

The boxes are designed to provide nine meals for a family of four. In order to pick up a box, you must register by calling 419-384-3038 by 5 p.m. on March 15.

Boxes will be available to be picked up on the last Saturday of the month, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church located at 502 East Main Street, Pandora.

Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N. Main St.  will begin the Lenten journey with a worship service March 5 at 7 p.m. Pastor Dave Good will offer the imposition of ashes and the disposition of ashes as we consider Isaiah 58, “This is the fast I choose.”

The choir, directed by Linda Sycks, will offer “Kyrie”, arranged by Jay Rouse, which includes music based on Symphony No. 9 by Antonin Dvorak. This piece features an English Horn solo with Jeremy Szabo. Jack Henry Neff will play an unaccompanied cello solo and Jayne McGarrity will play organ selections.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will hold an Ash Wednesday service on March 5 at 7 p.m. “From Garden to Glory” is the theme of the six Wednesday evening Lenten services. Pastor  Al Schmitzer will preach on “Garden of Repentance” and the choir will sing “The Holy Heart.” A light supper will be served by the Ladies’ Aid from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome and the church is handicapped  accessible.
