University artist series tickets now available; season offers five performances
Tickets are available for the 2016-17 Artist Series at Bluffton University. The season features five performances including a reed quintet, an international piano trio, a jazz composer, a Celtic duo and a one-act play. The Thursday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Bluffton University’s Yoder Recital Hall.
Akropolis, a reed quintet that incorporates adventure and innovation into each performance, will start the season on Sept. 22. Founded in 2009, the group has earned various musical and educational awards while creating a style of their own.
On Oct. 27, the Vienna Piano Trio will bring their classical sound to Yoder Recital Hall. Founded in 1988, the trio is particularly successful in works by composers closely associated with Austria, such as Brahms, Schubert and Haydn.
Halfway through the season, Walt Weiskopf will show off his technical prowess when he comes to Bluffton on Nov. 17. Weiskopf is a well-regarded composer who has released 19 albums since 1993 and has served as the sideman for Frank Sinatra, Michael McDonald and Steely Dan.
Julliard graduates Shawn Wyckoff and Maria Millar of Sonic Escape will share their Celtic-inspired sounds on Feb. 16. Armed with a flute and violin, the duo’s goal is to use hyper-instrumentals to fill hearts with indescribable joy.
The final performance of the season is of “The Other Mozart,” a one-act play that tells the story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Wolfgang Amadeus. She was a prodigy in her own right and performed alongside her brother, but her work has faded into history.
Tickets
Season tickets for the five performances in the Artist Series are available at $90 for adults and $75 for senior citizens and non-Bluffton students. A family pass is $55 with the purchase of any season ticket and admits all children in the family ages 6-18 to all five events.
