He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bluffton and the Korean War Veterans’ Association of Findlay. Karl was raised in a hard working, Catholic farm family of German descent. At the age of 23, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country by guarding the 38th parallel in Korea following the Korean War. He then returned home and began his lifelong career as a farmer. Karl was an innovator and forward thinker. He was one of the first to adopt no-till farming in this area and was always eager to research and learn about the latest techniques in farming. Karl also started his own custom lime hauling business and felt fortunate to make acquaintances with so many fellow farmers.
When Karl was not hard at work, he enjoyed meeting with his “Coffee Club,” at The Station (Winnie’s) or McDonald’s in Bluffton. He thoroughly enjoyed talking with others who had various careers and different views and opinions.
One of Karl’s greatest accomplishments was being a strong role model and provider for his family. He demonstrated this through his steadfast faith through all of his life’s challenges. He leaves his family with a solid foundation to carry on his legacy.
