Pirate boys soccer romps past Mustangs

HARROD __ The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team rolled over backyard rival Allen East, 7-0, in a Northwest Conference match Monday, September 16, at Goodwin Field.

Jackson Brauen scored two goals and passed out a pair of assists to pace the Pirate offense to victory. Chase Kelly dished out four assists as well.

The Pirate record improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in NWC play with the lopsided victory. AE fell to 1-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

Bluffton led 4-0 at halftime and never was threatened. 

Bluffton’s Gavin Amstutz scored the first goal off a Brauen assist in the sixth minute.

In the 25th minute, Brauen found the back of the net off the first Kelly assist for a 2-0 lead.

Ollie Combs scored the third goal off a pass from Ty Huffman. Levi Antrim then stretched the lead to 4-0 at intermission on a goal off a second Kelly assist.

Three minutes into the second half, Brauen tallied his second goal off of a Kelly feed.

In the 66th minute, Ethan Blount found the net via Kelly’s fourth assist.

Two minutes later, Isaiah Kohli netted the seventh goal off an assist from Brauen to provide the final margin. 

Bluffton fired 17 of their 27 shots on goal at the Mustang keeper. AE got off four shots, two of which were on goal.

Pirate keepers Alex Davis and Emmitt Kidd each had one save. AE keeper Cam Cosart was credited with 10 stops.

The first-place Pirates (2-0 NWC) visit struggling Northwest Conference rival Lima Central Catholic (0-7, 0-2 NWC) Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. Spencerville (2-1 NWC) is second to Bluffton in the league standings as the Pirates continue their quest to repeat again as conference champions.
