Chris Heffner was named the Mennonite Memorial Home employee of the month for October.
Heffner has worked at the Mennonite Memorial Home since 2005 as a LPN. Her supervisor commented that "she works full time and takes special interest in visiting with them and truly getting to know the elders. She can be found singing with them and has facilitated ways where they can benefit others. Her efforts are seen as providing meaning and quality of life to the elders." Heffner lives in Ottawa.
In response to requests for pastoral education related to domestic violence, Blanchard Valley Hospital's Spiritual Care Education Series is sponsoring a full day pastoral educational event: Pastoral Response to Domestic Violence

Leaf pickup in Bluffton will begin the week of Oct. 24 and will continue through Nov. 18, according to Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator.
"The village service department will begin at one end of town and complete a sweep of the village before starting over," said Mehaffie.
"As always, residents are welcome to take their leaves to the brush dump on Spring Street. Trash cans are available at the site to dispose of plastic bags used to haul the leaves," he said. "Leaves should not be left in bags at the brush dump.
An American Red Cross babysitting certification class is planned in November at BFR.
The class is from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton. Students ages 11 to 15 are invited to participate. The cost is $38 for BFR members, $43 for non-members.
