Ann Stechschulte Alyanak, 1997 Bluffton High School graduate and standout female athlete, now of Bellbrook, was the first female to cross the finish line of today's (Oct. 16) Nationwide Insurance Columbus Marathon.
Alyanak came out on top in a time of 2:41:53. Angie Turner of Columbia, Mo., placed second and qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2:45:01. Alyanak had qualified for the Trials at a previous race. Ludmila Stepanova of Russia placed third in 2:46:26.
Bluffton Baptist Church will offer Truck and Treats for children during Bluffton's trick-or-treat night, according to John McMinn, pastor.
The church event will take place during trick-or-treat hours from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31.
"We plan to park on the front side of our church along the driveway with trunk or tailgates forward," McMinn told the Icon.
"Each car/truck will have treats to dispense attended by costumed adults dressed as various role models. A crossing guard will be provided at County Line Road. Treats are free for the asking," he said.
Bluffton University freshman Caitlyn Nearhood (Clyde) was named Honorable Mention All-Heartland Conference following a solid campaign in which the Beavers re-introduced tennis after a two-year hiatus. She anchored the first singles and first doubles (with Melissa Hostetler) slots all season for Bluffton.
The Bluffton University women's soccer team conquered the rain and the Spartans in a 1-0 shutout of Heartland Conference rival Manchester College on Wednesday, Oct. 19. With the fifth straight blanking, the Beavers have clinched their first-ever winning season as well as the most victories by a Bluffton women's soccer team.
Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO), Bluffton, Allen County's largest senior healthcare provider, is focusing on "smallness."
On October 14, MHCO launched a $3.9 million Green House (R) building project that creates a small intentional community for a group of elders and staff. The project marks the first step in a long-range plan to bring 10 Green House homes and a community building to the 15 acre site of Willow Ridge, the name of MHCO's new campus.

The Main Street offices of Webb Insurance, Samuel W. Diller, Co., LPA and Reichenbach and Steiner CPAs will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their offices joining together at 138-140 N. Main St. The businesses involved moved into these storefronts in 1981.
The celebrate the anniversary donuts and cider will be served from 8 a.m. on throughout the day in front of the building.
