The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors met Thursday at the OHSAA Office for its August meeting, which marked the first board meeting of the 2012-13 school year. A question in our Latin class (long ago!) was, "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?", or, if I have it right, "Who guards the guardians themselves?". The media have freedom of the press, but the constitutional guarantee is supposed to be for all citizens, not just a special class. How can we be protected from editors who distort things themselves?

Pandora resident Judy Clemens is at it again with a release of another one of her mystery books title "Dying Echo." "Dying Echo," a Grim Reaper mystery, is the fourth series following her previous work, "Embrace the Grim Reaper, The Grim Reaper's Dance and Flowers for Her Grave."

According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer and weather reporter to The Icon, the average July temperature for the Bluffton-Pandora area is 72.8 degrees. This July the average daily temperature was 78.3 degrees.
The maximum temperature was 102 on July 6. The minimum was a cool 56 on July 21 - that's a 46 degree difference. The daily maximum temperature reading in July surpassed 90 13 days. It surpassed 100 on three days.

"It's a small world!" That well-known sentiment was proven true, once again, as Maple Crest, Bluffton, residents gathered for an organ hymn sing with Janice Shields.
Shields had barely been introduced when she realized that one of the residents had been her neighbor and school mate when they were children in Columbus Grove.
She stated her maiden name, Bryan, and immediately Jack McCullough remembered her, and jumped into a lively conversation with her, teasing her with the comment "You got older!"
Bluffton's next American Red Cross blood drive is Thursday, Aug. 2, from noon until 6 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Large Room, located at 160 N. Spring St.
