Local attorney Greg Reichenbach will discuss telemarketing scams during the Monday, Aug. 13, Bluffton Senior Citizens monthly dinner meeting. The dinner is at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center.
Reservations are required by Thursday, Aug. 8. Mary Hofstetter and friends serve as hostesses. Tickets are $7.
Walt Early, who will be 90 in August, will receive a life time membership during the monthly program.
Several other events take place at the Center in August.

Bluffton High School students have several events on their pre-school August calendar. The Icon provides the following back-to-school information:

Several events are scheduled in August for Bluffton elementary students, teachers, staff and parents. Here's the schedule:
Aug. 6-17 - Summer academy
Aug. 24 - Meet the teacher 2 to 3 p.m.
Aug. 27 - First day of school
Aug. 27-29 - KRAL testing by appointment for kindergarteners
Aug. 30 - First day for kindergarten
Sept. 3 - Labor Day - no school

Bluffton High School band members launch the 2012 marching band season on Monday as band camp begins.
The schedules follows:
Monday through Friday, Aug. 6-10
Pre-camp rehearsal 9 a.m.
Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 6-8
Freshman marching, 1 p.m.
Monday through Friday, Aug. 13-17
Band camp for all members, 7 a.m.
On Friday, Aug. 17, the band will perform for the public at 6 p.m. Following the performance the band will travel to the Allen County Fair for the county band show at 7 p.m.

Pauline M. Lutz Hirschler

Pauline M. Lutz Hirschler, 100 of Bluffton died Aug. 2, 2012 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born in Lima on Dec. 20, 1911, to Alarta and Tymah Fay Roush Lutz.
She married Alfred E. Hirschler on June 30, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1972. They lived most of their married life in Springfield, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

A weekend full of several events is on Bluffton's calendar Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4-5. Here's a capsule of events:

SATURDAY
Et Cetera Shop "Back to school sale"
Bluffton's Et Cetera Shop, 111 S. Main St., will hold a "back to school sale," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4. The sale features a "kid's overflowing clothing sale," Chrissy Lugibihl, store manager, told The Icon.
All clothing is $1 each, or $7 for a bag. The sale will be set up in the alley between Et Cetera and Edward Jones.

Bluffton University has named public spaces in its new Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education in honor of Tom and Helen Reichenbach (left) and Larry and Shirley Copeland (right).

Two public spaces in Bluffton University's soon-to-be-completed Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education will be named for two couples who provided substantial financial support and volunteer leadership for "Extending Our Reach-The Campaign for Bluffton," which funded the new building.

Alma Long

Alma Maxine (Moyers) Long, 86, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at 11:25 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima surrounded by her family.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1925 in Bruceton Mills, W.V. to Charles and Stella (Guthrie) Moyers, who preceded her in death. On June 10, 1951 she married Urban L. Long and he survives in Ada.
Mrs. Long graduated from Bruceton Mills High School and Bridgewater College, Virginia. She began her teaching career in the last one room school in Preston County, West Virginia; in which her mother also taught.
