The women’s soccer team at Bluffton University will host an ID Camp from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 17. The camp is open to players aged 15 and up who aspire to compete at the collegiate level. The camp will be an opportunity for high school athletes to improve their skill level through coaching sessions, to understand the training regimen at the collegiate level and to learn about the unique opportunities Bluffton offers student-athletes. The registration fee is $50 and includes lunch and t-shirt.

Trevor Bassitt, Bluffton High School senior athlete, advanced to the finals in his two preliminary events in the Division III state track and field championship.

Also competing for the Pirates were Kaleb Jefferson and the 3200 relay team that did not advance from preliminaries. The 3200 relay scored 3 points.

When faced with the daunting task of conducting a 500-voice high school choir earlier this year, Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, department chair and associate professor of music at Bluffton University, had one phrase to keep her in charge of what could have been an overwhelming situation--“Just Dzüge It.”

At BFR on Mondays, Wednesdays and Frdays

Bluffton Family Recreation, 2015 Snider Road, Bluffton, starts its summer Healthway SilverSneakers Fitness program this month, according to Joseph Beagle of BFR.

The program is for older adults and involves regular physical activity.

Each class session lasts 45 minutes held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:15 a.m. at BFR.

Classes start on June 5 - led by Matt Gillett

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes begin on Monday, June 5, at Bluffton Family Recreation.

Matt Gillett leads the sessions that take place at 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.

The first two weeks are free.

Classes include a series of high intensity workshops that burn more fat quickly in a shorter time, according to Gillett.

The classes are for persons who require advanced training in this area.

Work starts June 12 and continues up to three weeks

East College Avenue will be closed later in June for the installation of a new gas line under Riley Creek, according to the village.

The closure is from Main Street to Railroad Street. The project begins Monday, June 12, and will continues for up to three weeks.

Area residents experienced temperature extremes of 57 degrees in May, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

Also experienced was a rainy month. Precipitation in May reached 7.29 inches. The normal average precipitation is 4.01 inches.

The low temperature in May was 31 degrees on May 8. The high was 88 on May 18.

The average May 2017 daily temperature was 59.8 degrees and the normal May daily temperature is 60.5 degrees.
