Bluffton would not be the same without Joy Stemen's impact

Joy Stemen is winner of the Icon's George/Georgiana Bailey Award. Had she not existed, Bluffton wouldn't be the same. As the winner, Joy will select $100 worth of books in her name to be purchased by the Icon for the Bluffton Public Library.

Meet Bluffton’s Georgiana Bailey, a.k.a. Joy Stemen.

If she never existed, well, Bluffton would not be same without her impact.

Many people know the 2001 Bluffton High School graduate as a licensed massage therapist (LMT).

If you've not yet donated your used shoes to Bluffton Family Recreation, there's still time. But, that time is growing short.

This is BFR’s fourth shoe drive, which generates money for BFR programs and recycles old shoes. BFR earns money for shoes collected. Since 2014, the project has generated over $4,000 to BFR.

Mayor Augsburger: “Payroll is down, it’s been a rough year for the staff and it’s a nice gesture.”

Employees of the Village of Bluffton will each receive a $500 bonus this month. On top of that each employee will receive a $20 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.

Bluffton council approved the bonus plan on Nov. 27. The $500 bonuses cost the village $11,000.

According to Judy Augsburger, mayor, “Payroll is down, it’s been a rough year for the staff and it’s a nice gesture.”

She said that an approximate $40,000 surplus is in the payroll account due to the fact that the village went without a paid village administrator for several months.
