It’s a little-known fact that Bluffton, Ohio, is the home of the patented “ashless cigar.”

Why there’s no sign at the edge of town stating this fact is something I’ve never quite figured out. Perhaps it’s time to do something about it. So, here’s me doing something.

This cigar information is a long-held secret in my family, who happens to hold the patent.

Father’s Day shouldn’t pass without a mention in the Icons. I’m sorry to say that Mother’s Day 2022 passed without note on our Bluffton site, while Ada received a shopping countdown. Indeed, gifts and meals are often how we lavish love on family members. In my own family, Mother’s Day has been squeezed in between countless soccer tournaments and graduations, while Father’s Day in June seems a bit more leisurely.

GROB Systems Inc. shared this photo of new apprentices starting at the Bluffton manufacturing plant the week of June 13. During their first two years, they will be earning company-paid Associates Degrees in Engineering Technology.

Three separate grants make up The R.L. and Etta L. Triplett Foundation’s 2022 grant distribution, which totals $4,700, according to Tomm Triplett, foundation board president.

This year’s distribution includes $2,000 for a scholarship given to Olivia McCamery, $1,375 to Bluffton Family Recreation and $1,375 to the Bluffton Senior Citizens Association.
